International School Projects

Hanam International School

Overvie

A mixed-use urban development project in Hanam, on approximately 59.6 acres of land, will consist of residential, educational, and commercial buildings, with the international school as the anchor facility. Under the Ministry of Education, graduates of international high schools established by overseas high schools can earn dual diplomas – Korean and overseas. The international school in Hanam is proposed to be South Korea’s 8th international school accredited by the Ministry of Education - the only Ministry of Education-accredited international school to be built within the proximity of the nation’s capital, Seoul, made possible when a U.S. Army installation, Camp Colbern in Hanam City was returned to South Korea’s Department of Defense in 2006 after occupying the land for 41 years. This area was kept reserved and undeveloped until early 2023. With its neighboring cities Gangnam, Songpa, Seocho, Gangdong, and Seongnam, where the nation’s highest per capita income is, Hanam’s newly established international school will be highly sought after school among parents who don’t want to send their children off to Jeju Island or Incheon where children must rely on the school dormitories.

Background

“ Hanam, a City of Hidden Treasure ”

Hanam is located east of Seoul, whose neighboring cities include nation’s highest per capita income towns: Gangnam, Seocho,  Songpa, Gangdong, and Seongnam, all within a 30-minute drive (10 to 20 miles).  It is home to numerous famous tourists attracting monuments, including the world's only 60-degree-angled sculpture of a corn kernel, the Hanam Union Tower, and a backdrop of the nation's gigantic Han River overlooking the city.

History

The city of Hanam has flourished alongside the Han River as a vast and fertile land. Our ancestors have created a brilliant historical culture from the Paleolithic era through Baekje to the modern era. In particular, the eponymous King Onjo of Baekje established the area of Hanam City as his base in the 13th year of his reign (6th century B.C.) and called it “Hanam Wiryeseong.”  It served as a major city until the 25th year of King Geochogo of Baekje.
